Sam Sperry is currently a Research Fellow I,  Vertex Pharmaceuticals where he is head of the drug metabolism portion of the DMPK department.  Previously he was an Associate Director in the ADME group at SGX Pharmaceuticals. He was with SGX from 2002 to 2008, where he implemented analytical and bio-analytical capabilities to support drug discovery and development. Initially he supervised many aspects of developing the sample registration, storage, tracking, distribution, and quality control procedures for SGX discovery and lead optimization compounds. Additionally he directed the SGX ADME group to develop and apply several physico-chemical and ADME profiling assays. Currently his primary focus is DMPK characterization of discovery leads and clinical candidates. Prior to joining SGX Sam worked at Structural Bioinformatics and Tularik. Sam has a B.Sc. from CSU Long Beach and a Ph.D. from UC Santa Cruz.  After receiving his Ph.D., Sam accepted a post-doc position at the University of the South Pacific, Fiji Islands conducting marine natural products research.
